Ashley Rockwood & Dancers Awareness Project #GIVEDAP A Project of Urban Gateways
I am honored to be on the Urban Gateways Associate Board. Actually, in my younger dancing days I performed school shows with Giordano Dance Chicago through this organization. "Dance Through the Decades" - a super fun show with a million costume changes. I was even cast as Michael Jackson because of my stellar moon walking skills.
Urban Gateways' mission is to educate and inspire young people by delivering high-quality, accessible arts experiences that advance their personal and academic growth. Urban Gateways delivers high-quality arts programs led by trained and experienced professional artists in music, dance, theater, literary arts, visual arts, and digital media to engage youth in grades pre-K through 12, their teachers, families, and communities. Urban Gateways teaching artists collaborate with school teachers, administrators, and art specialists to develop and deliver engaging, integrated curricula for all types of learners.
Urban Gateways accomplishes its mission by providing multi-disciplinary arts experiences for 70,000 participants in over 220 locations across the Chicago Metropolitan area. Founded in 1961 to enable access and equity to the arts for youth, and considered a pioneer in the field of arts education, Urban Gateways has remained a vital part of Chicago's cultural legacy for the last 55 years
I know first hand the quality of this organization and it is incredible. Support me, support the arts, and donate.*

Arts Healing Trauma
Supported by a $90,000 matching challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Healing Trauma combines Urban Gateways' expertise in high-quality arts education with the clinical services of UCAN (Uhlich Children's Advantage Network), a community-based organization that works with North Lawndale youth and families to recognize the impact of violence and trauma in order to create safety and healing. UCAN's primary clients are youth in care of the state child welfare system and youth who have been removed from their homes for reasons of abuse or neglect. This partnership will serve the missions of both organizations by providing access to quality arts education to underserved youth dealing with trauma, mitigating its effects and empowering them with the social-emotional tools necessary to make positive changes in their lives.
Street-Level Youth Media Acquisition
Urban Gateways has acquired Street-Level Youth Media to be reconstituted as its digital media and creative youth development program portfolio. Urban Gateways' successful merger with Art Resources in Teaching (A.R.T.) in 2013 proved that this program and asset acquisition model presents a unique opportunity for greater mission impact throughthe consolidation of resources. This innovative approach to growth enables the organization to operate a fully functional multimedia center for hundreds of youth, significantly expanding the technology, digital media, and journalism program portfolio for Urban Gateways.
$5 Teen Ticket Initiative
Urban Gateways is launching a city-wide initiative aimed at creating open access and equity for the 270,000 youth ages 13-19, connecting them to Chicago's wealth of live performances for only $5 cash. This $5 Teen Ticket Initiative enables all teens to purchase available day-of-show tickets to music venues, theaters, and other cultural institutions at an extreme discount, effectively providing a passport to the city's cultural treasures. This program will be made available to every teen regardless of their neighborhood, gender, ethnicity, and economic status. Through this initiative, youth will be empowered as new arts consumers while arts partners cultivate a new and important audience segment, filling houses with future audience members and arts advocates. This mutually beneficial program has the vast potential to play a critical role in future sustainability for Chicago's arts and culture sector while providing Chicago teens with the opportunity to experience the magic of live performance.
